Increasingly, deeper water offshore requirements demand tighter dimensional tolerances on pipe ends for Steel Catenary Risers and fatigue sensitive flowlines in order to minimize the Hi/Lo differential for fitting and welding. Shaw Pipeline Services offers a fast and accurate full geometric assessment of the pipe ends enabling an efficient matching and alignment prior to welding.
Shaw Pipeline Services automated system measures and records the internal diameter for ovality, wall thickness, and eccentricity on piping. Utilizing our proprietary custom equipment and software to generate an automated report to rotate and match the ends that are best suited for matching. Shaw Pipeline Services proprietary software allows us to also export the data into most common formats, although most of our clients prefer our custom reports. Shaw Pipeline Services standard system can inspect piping ranging from 3 inch to 24 inch, however custom systems are available for lager and smaller sizes.
Some of our clients utilized this process prior to pipes entering the coating mill to minimize coating pipes that fall outside of specifications. By identifying the out of tolerance pipe prior to coating and welding minimizes unnecessary cost and downtime later in the process. |
