The AUT process involves six discrete steps:

Calibration Block

Manufacture of a precision machined standard from project specific material designed to replicate the weld bevel profile and incorporate a series of controlled reflectors to provide a base line for sizing.

Transducer Array & Scanner Design

Design and assembly of a series of focused transducers onto a centerspine structure with an integral drive motor, wiring, and instrumentation for mounting on the welded pipe.

Band Setting

Field installation of a scanner drive band at a prescribed distance from the weld bevel to accommodate mounting of the scanner.

Scanning

Complete circumferential inspection of the girth weld and data collection via the ultrasonic instrumentation.

Interpretation

Real time review and interpretation of the inspection data presented on the GUI by a certified AUT operator.

Data Processing

Disposition of weld data, labeling and digital file storage with backup and hard copy reporting.
